Qualifications
Captain George currently holds a USCG Merchant Marine Officer license Issue # 5 # USA000412168 with a rating of 100 gross tons. This license has a Sail, Power and towing endorsement.
Captain George has attended and qualified for the USCG (STCW) Standards, Training, Certification. And Watchkeeping course for Seafarers # 0034650 .
Captain George also attended the US Sailing safety at sea course required for Transpacific Yacht races.
Captain George has a teaching credential from US Sailing as a “Basic Keel boat instructor”.

1986 San Diego to Cabo San Lucas Mexico Delivery boat name “Fire Escape” Type Spindrift 43 Owner Ralph Faust South shore Yacht club.

1987 San Diego to Cabo San Lucas Mexico Delivery Boat name Cheyenne Type Alaula 32 Owner Steve Linden. Private boat owner. Crew position Captain for Owner for the delivery. Owner had not traveled any distances in his boat and wanted an experienced Captain on board. Duties included assisting with preparation of boat and delivering yacht with owner on board safely to Mexico where owner continued on to Hawaii and points beyond.
1988 to present: Captain George has raced 6 Long Beach to Cabo San Lucas races on his own boats. He has made 8 round trips on his own boats to Mexico including the Sea of Cortez. Captain George has Raced in over 13 Newport to Ensenada Mexico races. He has also participated in 5 double handed races around Catalina island. Winning Class and first over all in 3 of these races. Currently Captain George is a member of Pacific Single handed Sailing association, which sponsors races that qualify members to participate in off shore races including Transpacific yacht race and the Pacific Cup Race. Captain George has qualified for these races by Participating and in 2003 winning the double handed Guadalupe Island Mexico race. Captain George has participated in 3 Guadalupe Island Mexico races. This race is a 650 mile open ocean race that he raced in the double handed class.
PACIFIC CROSSINGS
1994 Captain George Sailed from Oceanside Harbor California to Oahu Hawaii. He sailed on a Crealock 34 Boat name “Fancy Free” Owners name John Charlton Staff Commodore Oceanside Yacht Club. Captain George went as Owners Advisor, Assistant and Medical officer. He was also in charge of all the systems on boat.
1998 Captain Les George raced on the J120 Gingerbreadman in the Pacific cup yacht race. Captain Les George prepared the boat for this trip by installing water maker, additional batteries and additional equipment needed to complete the race. He then performed load tests and system tests to confirm operations. Yacht systems have become Captain George’s specialty.
2002 Captain Les George delivered the Bavaria 37 “Boundless” from San Francisco to Ensenada Mexico then after preparing the boat he assisted the owner with final preparations and provisioning for the trip to Oahu Hawaii. Captain George went as Captain, Navigator and systems mechanic.
2008 Captain George was hired to be the second Captain on a 59 foot Perry designed Sailing yacht. Captain George was hired to help deliver the sailing Yacht “Free Range Chicken” from Kona Hawaii to Oceanside California. The trip took Captain George and crew just over 11 days. The delivery was completed in January of 2008. Another successful delivery without damage or injury to crew.
2009 Captain George and one crew member sailed over 12000 miles from Oceanside to Cabo San Lucas to the Marquesas then to Tahiti and then to Hawaii then back to Oceanside this was done in 6 months. This trip was done on OBSESSION Captain Georges boat.
2004-2006 Captain George raced his boat “Obsession” to Cabo San Lucas 3 additional times each time delivering boat back to California with the assistance of crew members
2006 Captain George and his crew raced in the Newport to Cabo San Lucas Mexico yacht race. This race was with a full crew and the delivery back. At the end of 2006 when Captain George retired from the Fire department he took off for Mexico on his own boat “Obsession” where he cruised as far south as Acapulco Mexico. He was in Mexico for three months. He then returned to California in early 2007. He then continued running Pacific Coast Sail Charters and at the same time began putting together and teaching Man overboard classes for his crew and other members of race crews.
2009 Captain George and crew took OBSESSION on a 6 month 12,000 mile sail from Oceanside Ca. South to French Poly. then back to Hawaii and back home to Oceanside.
2010 Captain George delivered Sirocco a J-130 from Puerto Vallarta Mexico to San Diego California.
2018 Captain George logged 1500 miles of open ocean sailing in the new OBSESSION traveling to Tahiti from March through August.
